49. Take a photo of 30 happy things.

I can’t help but think we go through life not recognising the things which makes us happy and if we took more note, we could be happier. This list is in no particular order, just as I think of/see them and are from all aspects of life.

#9 – Knitting
30 things which make me happy - #9
I started knitting for my 101 Things and I love it. It’s so nice to go from two sticks and a ball of wool to a garment or an item. It’s a hobby I can do regardless of how well/ill I feel and something that doesn’t take huge amounts of effort. It’s lovely to see people’s faces when I knit things for them and in return, it makes me happy too.

#10 – Stitch and Bitch
30 things which make me happy - #10
I’m not sure where I would be without my S&B group, well I suspect I would be quite lonely actually! Every Tuesday I go to a lovely wine bar to chat with lovely friends about everything and anything. I try my best to go unless I’m away or if I’m really too ill as I always enjoy it when I get there. It’s been the start of close friendship and fun with friends, I love it.

#11 – Chippy Suppers
30 things which make me happy - #11
I crave Scottish East Coast chippies more than anything else. The first meal I always want to eat when I go home, usually smoked sausage suppers but I’m quite partialled to a battered burger too. It always has to have nippy sauce (part sauce, part vinegar) and either Irn Bru or Vimto. I do love a chippy supper, yum.

#12 – Birthdays
30 things which make me happy - #12
Who doesn’t love their birthday? The day where you are the centre of attention, where you get to do what you want to do and have fun. When my mum’s birthday arrives, I always know I have three weeks and one day until mine and the excitement arrives!

#13 – Friends
30 things which make me happy - #13
I am very blessed to have such good friends, from many parts of my life. I have some older friends (from years back), many internet friends, friends I’ve met online who have become some of my best friends (like all in the above photo), friends from Stitch and Bitch, friends I’ve met through Dean. I don’t think I could ever have too many friends and I’m so lucky to have the friends I have.

#7 – Christmas

Who couldn’t love Christmas? It’s my favourite “season” of the year and never fails to make me feel warm and fuzzy. My Christmas this year was quiet but lovely and I was a very lucky bunny. When it comes to photos, who couldn’t love lots and lots of bokeh (the little circles of light)?

#8 – Frankie
When Christmas just gets too much...
Frankie is an elusive kitty when it comes to photographs, he used to be a happy model then changed his mind and became camera shy but I managed to catch him on Christmas Day during his post-catnip and turkey haze. He is really my mother-in-law’s cat but I love him to bits and he makes me very happy indeed.

1. Macaroni cheese
30 things which make me happy - #1
This to me is the ultimate comfort food (well my half, I don’t want tomatoes spoiling it thank you very much!) and probably would be my last meal, if I got choose. Although I enjoy it in restaurants and other people’s houses, I’m quite pernickety about how it’s made at home. It has to Marshall’s Macaroni and made with medium coloured cheddar. Bacon and garlic are nice additions but not necessity. It should be grilled with cheese on top, letting it go crispy but not brown. I love it best when it’s made by my mum, who lovingly cooked it when I was poorly as a child and also who really wants to make their own comfort food? Macaroni cheese rocks!

2. Summer fruits
30 things which make me happy - #2
I love fruit and could live of it, in fact, I often do, especially in the summer. In a way, it’s a real shame that what used to be just summer fruit only is so available all year round as it takes some of the specialness of it away. Cherries are the best as they are summer only and also lets face it, you still can’t beat British summer berries. Yum.

3. Old cars
Woodvale Rally
There is something about a vintage car which always makes me smile and I’m not sure why. They make me think about all the life they have seen and how well cared for they are. They are almost always a thing of beauty. I will own an old car one day and I’ll drive through the countryside, making everyone who looks at me smile.

4. Lavender
Lavender
Lavender is such a beautiful flower with such an intense smell. When I smell lavender, I am instantly taken back to a little gypsy stall in Lourdes, France. She stood day after day selling little net bags of dried lavender. It was always a happy and comforting smell, a smell that was there before you could see her. I always bought a bag to bring home and miss having them around. The nearest I get at the moment is gardens in the summer or my gorgeous L’occitane bubble bath, the best bubble bath available and it smells just like the stall in Lourdes.
