20 Strangers Who Need Company (#35)

35. Spend time talking to 20 strangers who look like they need company. I won’t list them all as it’s hard to remember but will certainly list what I can.

1. August 2009
Whilst in the chemist, I heard an upset grandmother ask the pharmacist about a couple of different drugs for her grandson and it was drugs I knew a fair bit about. She sat down beside me so initiated a conversation based on what I had heard and ended up talking to her for 1/2 an hour. I don’t like admitting I’ve been listening to private conversations (although this wasn’t really a private as it’s in a small space) but it just felt like the right thing to do. We talked about her grandson, his health (he has Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis) and how he is coping with all the drugs. I told her about my health and drugs. We then talked about his mother (her daughter in law) how she is ill too, with problems similar to mine. I gave her details of my professor and said she should tell her daughter in law to ask to see him. I don’t even know this lady’s name but I hope it was the kind of serendipitous meeting which will help her and her family.
