54 – Bake 50 unique things from my recipe books
This task was originally bake once a fortnight but life got in the way so I’ve changed it to baking 50 different things, it also means I’ve lost track of dates. I’m going only list unique items as I have things I bake regularly (ie cupcakes) and don’t want to fill the 50 up with them but different actual versions are allowed, I think!
I’ll update this post whenever I bake something and will try to include photos too.
1. Scottish bran scones
Bero. I love bran scones, we used to have them on a Sunday after church and they always take me back to my childhood whenever I eat them. They can only be eaten with proper butter, it’s the law! They are so easy to make too, you can get the recipe if you click on the photo.

2. Vanilla cupcakes
Nigella cupcakes from HTBADG with icing and mini marshmallows, always hit with the young and not so young!

3. Chocolate cupcakes
A dense chocolate cake from Nigella’s HTBADG made into cupcakes for Dean to take into work.
4. Mini pavlovas
From Nigella’s HTBADG, made for Stitch and Bitch, although it became just meringues as I had no cream!
5. Shortbread hearts
Made for Stitch and Bitch from Bero and went down a treat.
6. Scones
Made for afternoon tea with friends. We’ve always used a simple Bero recipe and they never fail to be nice. My mum used to make 100s of them in one morning when we had fundraising coffee mornings.
7. Malibu Coconut Cake
Made for afternoon tea with friends. This is a Nigella recipe from HTBADG which one EVERYONE must try. The layer of toasted coconut and Malibu buttercream really is delicious.
8. Truffles
An old favourite in our house, made often and always loved.
9. Lemon Drizzle Cake
Nigella HTBADG again! This is only the second time I’ve made this and this time made it as a square cake rather than loaf and was really glad I did as it looked much better and could be cut into squares rather than slices.
10. Sticky gingerbread
Nigella once again but from Christmas this time. Made this with a lemon glaze as the grown up contribution to my little Christmas with the same friends who came for afternoon tea earlier in the year. A huge hit
11. Spiced biscuits
Guess who? lol. Lovely taste and smell plus a huge hit with the children at the party. I had good fun with my snowflake cutters too. Recipe from Christmas.

12. Mincemeat pinwheels
Ultimate Christmas. These were like a cross between a Danish pastry and a Chelsea bun, absolutely yummy. They were really sticky and flaked almonds on the top were lovely.

13. Chocolate brownies
Hummingbird Bakery. I have fallen in love with these brownies and have made them a few times. I particularly love the crystallised end pieces, yum!
14. Raspberry cheesecake brownies
Hummingbird Bakery. I made these for my 30th birthday party and although I didn’t eat one myself, everyone who had one raved about them. They looked ace with the three layers.
15. Lime and coconut cupcakes
I made these from Primrose Bakery as one of four different cupcakes for my 30th birthday party, they went down really well.
16. Carrot cupcakes with cream cheese icing
Back to Nigella’s HTBADG. These were also made for my party and looked fab, complete with carrot decorations!
17. Chocolate layer cake
From Primrose Bakery. I made this for Dean on our sixth “sugar” wedding anniversary. It really was the nicest chocolate cake we’ve ever eaten, gorgeous!
18. Chocolate Guinness cake
From Nigella’s Feast, chosen by Dean as his birthday. God bless Nigella, she never lets me down!
19. Chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing
These are more or less the same as the chocolate layer cake, again from Primrose Bakery. I made these for Yin Yin at Stitch and Bitch’s belated birthday.
20. Almond and cherry loaf
From Nigella’s HTBADG. This is a really lovely loaf.
