64. Go for afternoon tea at a lovely hotel
On the same day out with Joanne and Ben, we also went to The Balmoral for afternoon tea. We had things to celebrate, not least for their baby (aka Haggis) being on the way. What better excuse for that and good company to take tea in the drawing room?

The tea was amazing, we had:
Lovely fruit tea (Ben had “normal” tea)

Sandwiches:
Smoked salmon and cream cheese, cucumber, tomato with chives, egg mayonnaise with cress and cheddar cheese.

Scones:
Honey, fruit and cinnamon with butter, strawberry conserve and clotted cream.

Cakes:
Honey ice cream (rather bizarrely), strawberry tarts, caramel tarts, victoria sponge and blackcurrant cheesecake.

One word: Divine!
Sorry Aussie Anne, I know you will be very jealous at me having afternoon tea without you. xxx

26. Buy a Christmas decoration in the summer
62. Eat a cream cake from Fisher & Donaldson
63. Eat fish and chips at the harbour in Anstruther
On 29th July, Dean and I took a trip to St Andrews and had such a lovely day.
Whilst there, we went to The Christmas Shop to buy a Christmas decoration.

We had lunch from the amazing Fisher and Donaldson bakery, where Dean had a Forfar Bridie and a custard filled doughnut, I had a vanilla slice and a strawberry tart, all gorgeous as always! We also got two rhubarb pies for my mum.

We then went to the Anstruther Fish Bar, which has won so many awards. They have to be the best fish and chip shop in the world. We got there early so avoided the usual one hour queue. It never fails to let us down.

A very productive day really.

59. Make a birthday cake for Dean each year.
Blog page
For his 31st Birthday on 14th June 2010.
A somewhat easier cake this year (woo!) but Dean’s choice so I don’t feel bad about it at all. It’s Nigella’s Chocolate Guinness cake and it’s really lovely. It has a white chocolate and cream cheese topping with the trademark Guinness shamrock.

60. Decorate two Christmas cakes each year (Blog Page)
I started a cake decorating course in 2006 but never managed to complete it due to my health. I got a leeetle resentful and stuck my kit-box in the cupboard. This year with my 101 Things list in mind, I made a point of properly making Christmas cakes and dusted the box off. I’m going to start using the kit again with my cupcakes so it won’t be such a waste.
Anyway…
Cake One
This one was made by Dean but still decorated by me and kept here in Liverpool:
Cake Two
This one was to take to Musselburgh, both made and decorated by me. I love it!! (I was frustrated by the overhang of icing as I had been continuously smoothing the edge but nothing to cancel Christmas over…)
I’m not quite sure how I’ll come up with something to top these next year!

10. Meet 20 new internet friends in real life (page link)
54. Bake at least 50 times (page link)
I’ve been staying at my mum’s for a week and we hosted an afternoon tea for some of my friends (the same friends we had a picnic with in August) on Wednesday this week. We had a fab time both baking together and the tea party itself. My mum and I love baking and cooking together and for the tea we made scones, Malibu coconut cake, cupcakes, lemon drizzle cake and chocolate truffles. We had salmon, ham and cucumber sandwiches too. The children all seemed to enjoy themselves too, with their little picnic on the floor.
I also got to meet the lovely Anna, who I have spoken to for so long but never got to meet. Hopefully it’s the first of many meetings and this takes my tally of meeting internet friends in real life to 18.
Such a lovely (and yummy!) day.
